Expression In Every Way

Expression In Every Way

scetch

This wonderful drawing was sent to me by my friend Bob Franks from the awesome group in Ohio called Bluelunch. As Bob explained it to me, every year at a chili cook-off they play in their local area, an incredibility loving elderly lady named Anita Silverman comes and does one of these drawings of the band. Bob tells me he's never met her. It seems she hands the drawings to someone and then leaves. Bob also tells me this has been going on for 10 years or so.

Well, Bob's email to me makes me know he's always had a great appreciation for these drawings but, I think with some of my requests for content lately, Bob finally found a place to share this beautiful expression. I could tell you all the same thing about me. I have a lot of things sitting on a shelf I want people to know about but, will it be appreciated and is it the right time ? Now is the time for this !

Now, just like Bob, I do music performance and had a similar thing happen to me. This drawing I will share, may not be as advanced as those that Bluelunch has received by Miss Silverman but, I think it may speak more to why Miss Silverman has done this for Bluelunch for all these years ? I suspect this young man Lucus was so taken in by the music, he felt the need to express it back in a way he knew how to. Here's a drawing by a young man named Lucus that I received in my tip jar one night..

Tim Wilson In Run For Komen

Like a lot of people, Tim Wilson didn’t appreciate growing up in Greenfield, Missouri until he was far enough away to recognize the small town life he had is the life his big city friends now want for their kids.  It’s a bond he shares with long-time friend and fellow classmate, Brian Sullivan (Blues Party Connection), who also has the perspective achieved by travels that led him far from, not only the courthouse square, but the lifestyle and values of the people who live around there.

A design engineer on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, Tim has his name on several parts in the cockpit that pilots use to fly the F-16, F-22, and F35 fighter jets.  Most of his job consists of mundane paperwork, but the occasional perks of flying the simulator, working with test pilots (the rock stars of the business), and watching his jets from the parking lot where he works makes the drudgery worthwhile.

It wasn’t some great life-changing event that got Tim involved in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, it was just another mass distribution email the company sent out promoting one of its many charities.  Already a runner, Tim was impressed at how easy the Komen organization made it to register for the 5K race and raise funds for the cause online, and with how the Komen organization used the money it raised.  But it was the actual race that hooked him.  A huge, well-organized event full of survivors and families of victims of the disease that created a contagious feeling of hope for a cure that pulled him in.

Tim’s non-traditional, often self deprecating donation letters, as well as his unique stream-of-consciousness post-run Race Reports have helped make him the top fund raiser at Lockheed Martin, and number ten overall in the Greater Fort Worth Area.  Every year he adds names to his distribution list, and, unfortunately, the list of close friends and family stricken by breast cancer. Fortunately, they are mostly good news survivor stories – thanks to organizations like Komen.

Brian's Simple Recipe Shown Here With A Raw Green Pepper Garnish

If you're like me and tired of spending a fortune on groceries, don't like to cook but, love great food, here's one of the the recipes I invented. It will keep the family in meals for days. I call it Greek Chicken Lentils.

I start by mincing half an onion into the smallest bits possible. Then I saute those in one table spoon of margarine with black pepper sprinkled over the top. Just cover the onions with a touch of black pepper.

Then turn down the heat to low and add your main spices to the onions which are, basil, parsley, and oregano. I use about one level teaspoon of each.

Then I take a pinch of crushed mint and a pinch of marjoram flakes and add those too. Stir all of that around for a few minutes and then add one half cup of water and stir again. That's it, that's your spice base. Turn off the stove and don't burn down the house.

Now it's time to get out the crock pot (Patty's idea) and drop in 10 raw chicken legs. Fill the crock pot with water just enough to completely cover the chicken. Pour in your spice blend and set your crock pot on high. Let the chicken cook about 4 hours, or at least until it is fall off the bone cooked. Then remove the chicken with tongs and let cool on a plate. Once the chicken is cool to the touch, separate the meat from the bone and return it to the broth in the crock pot. Then pour in one 16 ounce bag of lentils and set your crock pot to low. 4 hours later, you will have one of the second best meals you've ever eaten. The first best will be when you reheat this stuff from the frig the next day !

Back To The Big Stage For Me

Back To The Big Stage For Me !

        (Me) Brian Sullivan

About 10 days from now, at the end of January, I'll be showcasing my new solo show. I'd love to tell you where I'm doing this but, even my best musician friends steal my gigs when I say too much.  That's how stiff competition is now days for all of us.

Anyway, I've been working on a sound for 15 years. I've been doing the show in restaurants for years in kind of a whisper voice. It was hard to tear down my career as a sideman making money with band leaders who really had their thing in place but, even though everybody always said I should be a front man for a band and I knew it was the thing to do, saying and doing is a different story.

I have a singing voice but, for years I never worked on it, because I relied on my guitar skills to entertain. Being the front man is a totally different story. You have to be extremely confident and have your own thing down. I'd been doing everyone else's thing for so long, I only had everyone elses thing down.  That's not a bad thing. That's where I finally learned about being out front.

Then there was my radio career that took off about 7 years ago. It really taught me things about the music business I'd never really known before. That radio career turned into me being the creator of this web site you're on right now. All of this took so much away from what I was trying to do with my own music. I just can't tell you though, how much the information gained has advanced my music business skill.

So the bottom line is that I am making moves to have my own band somewhere down the line, in the next few years. I'm still working hard on the music and just being a solo.  The end result of my vision is coming a few more steps down the line.

I'd like to ask this one avor of all of you who read this.  Please go to my entertainer Facebook page and “like” it.
